Vad bevisen stöder
Mycket lite kontrollerat bevis på denna extrema nivå. Korta studier rapporterar förhöjt fasteglukos och förändrade lipidmarkörer hos vissa deltagare. [1]
Att möta protein- och mikronäringsbehov på en gång är verkligen svårt. Populärt, dåligt studerat, och riktningen på de metaboliska markörerna är inte uppmuntrande.
Den slutsats folk missar
Över den randomiserade litteraturen producerar fasta protokoll viktminskning som är jämförbar med kontinuerlig energirestriktion av samma magnitud. Där en studie likställer kalorier, vinner sällan den fasta armen. Detta rapporteras konsekvent och kommuniceras konsekvent dåligt, eftersom "det fungerar ungefär lika bra som att äta mindre" är en dålig rubrik.
Det är fortfarande ett användbart resultat. För vissa människor är en regel om när man ska äta mycket lättare att följa än en regel om hur mycket, och efterlevnad är det som faktiskt avgör resultaten över ett år.

- 16:8 tidsbegränsad ätning — ät inom 8 timmar, fasta 16
- Tidigt tidsbegränsat ätande — fönster flyttat tidigt, t.ex. 8-16
- 5:2-dieten — två kraftigt begränsade dagar per vecka
- Alternativdagsfasta — växla mellan ätande och fasta eller mycket låga kalori dagar
- Förlängd fasta (48 timmar och mer) — flerdagars, vatten eller minimal intag
