Randomizovana poređenja pokazuju da je gubitak težine u suštini ekvivalentan kontinuiranom smanjenju kalorija tokom 6-12 meseci. [1]
Ekvivalentno, ne bolje. Koji od njih deluje je pitanje o osobi, a ne o protokolu.
Nalaz koji ljudi propuštaju
U randomizovanoj literaturi, protokoli posta proizvode gubitak težine uporediv sa kontinuiranim smanjenjem energije iste magnitude. Gde trial izjednačava kalorije, grana posta retko pobeđuje. Ovo se dosledno izveštava i dosledno slabo komunicira, jer "deluje otprilike kao manje jedenje" je loša naslovna priča.
I dalje je to koristan rezultat. Za neke ljude pravilo o tome kada jesti je daleko lakše za praćenje od pravila o tome koliko, a pridržavanje je ono što zapravo određuje rezultate tokom godine.

- Rano vremenski ograničeno jedenje — prozor pomeren rano, npr. 8-16
- Post naizmeničnih dana — naizmenično dani sa hranom i postom ili dani sa vrlo niskim kalorijama
- Jedan obrok dnevno (OMAD) — jedan dnevni obrok
- Produženi post (48 sati i više) — višednevni, voda ili minimalni unos
