Hva bevisene støtter
Det mest studerte vinduet. Randomiserte studier finner generelt vekttap sammenlignbart med tilsvarende kalori-restriksjon — mekanismen er stort sett at et kortere vindu reduserer inntaket, ikke at klokken i seg selv gjør noe ekstra. [1]
TREAT og lignende studier fant ingen fordel over enkel kalori-restriksjon, og en rapporterte større tap av muskelmasse. Appellen ligger i etterlevelse, ikke overlegenhet.
Funnene folk overser
I den randomiserte litteraturen produserer fasteprotokoller vekttap sammenlignbart med kontinuerlig energirestriksjon av samme størrelse. Der en studie likestiller kalorier, vinner sjelden fastearmen. Dette rapporteres konsekvent og kommuniseres konsekvent dårlig, fordi "det fungerer omtrent like godt som å spise mindre" er en dårlig overskrift.
Det er fortsatt et nyttig resultat. For noen mennesker er en regel om når de skal spise mye lettere å følge enn en regel om hvor mye, og etterlevelse er det som faktisk bestemmer resultatene over et år.

- Tidlig tidsbegrenset spising — vindu flyttet tidlig, f.eks. 08:00-16:00
- 5:2 dietten — to sterkt begrensede dager per uke
- Alternativ-dags faste — veksling mellom spist og fastet eller svært lavkaloridager
- Én måltid om dagen (OMAD) — en enkelt daglig spiseanledning
- Langvarig faste (48 timer og mer) — flere dager, vann eller minimal inntak
