Kleine gecontroleerde voedingsstudies suggereren dat eerder op de dag eten de insulinegevoeligheid en de glykemische controle verbetert, onafhankelijk van gewicht, in overeenstemming met de circadiane biologie. [1]
Proeven zijn klein en de schema's zijn sociaal moeilijk vol te houden. Het metabolische signaal is interessanter dan het gewichts signaal.
De bevinding die mensen missen
In de gerandomiseerde literatuur produceren vastprotocollen gewichtsverlies dat vergelijkbaar is met continue energiebeperking van dezelfde omvang. Waar een proef calorieën gelijkstelt, wint de vastende arm zelden. Dit wordt consequent gerapporteerd en consequent ondercommuniceerd, omdat "het werkt ongeveer net zo goed als minder eten" een slecht kop is.
Het is nog steeds een nuttig resultaat. Voor sommige mensen is een regel over wanneer te eten veel gemakkelijker te volgen dan een regel over hoeveel, en naleving is hetgene dat daadwerkelijk de uitkomsten over een jaar bepaalt.
Andere protocollen
- 16:8 tijdsbeperkt eten — eet binnen 8 uur, vast 16
- Het 5:2 dieet — twee sterk beperkte dagen per week
- Afwisselend vasten — afwisselend gevoede en vastende of zeer laag-calorische dagen
- Eén maaltijd per dag (OMAD) — een enkele dagelijkse eetgelegenheid
- Verlengd vasten (48 uur en langer) — meerdere dagen, water of minimale inname
