Lo que la evidencia apoya
Pequeños estudios de alimentación controlada sugieren que comer más temprano en el día mejora la sensibilidad a la insulina y el control glucémico independientemente del peso, consistente con la biología circadiana. [1]
Los ensayos son pequeños y los horarios son socialmente difíciles de mantener. La señal metabólica es más interesante que la señal de peso.
El hallazgo que la gente pasa por alto
A través de la literatura aleatorizada, los protocolos de ayuno producen pérdida de peso comparable a la restricción continua de energía de la misma magnitud. Donde un ensayo iguala las calorías, el grupo de ayuno rara vez gana. Esto se informa de manera consistente y se comunica de manera inconsistente, porque "funciona aproximadamente tan bien como comer menos" es un mal titular.
Sigue siendo un resultado útil. Para algunas personas, una regla sobre cuándo comer es mucho más fácil de seguir que una regla sobre cuánto, y la adherencia es lo que realmente determina los resultados a lo largo de un año.

- Ayuno restringido en el tiempo 16:8 — comer dentro de 8 horas, ayunar 16
- La dieta 5:2 — dos días fuertemente restringidos por semana
- Ayuno en días alternos — días alternos de alimentación y ayuno o muy baja ingesta calórica
