Produeix pèrdua de pes en assaigs; les comparacions més grans no troben avantatge sobre la restricció diària i un abandonament notablement més alt. [1]
L'adherència és el problema recurrent. Un protocol que funciona en un assaig i no en la vida no és un millor protocol.
La troballa que la gent perd
A través de la literatura aleatoritzada, els protocols de dejuni produeixen pèrdua de pes comparable a la restricció energètica contínua de la mateixa magnitud. On un assaig iguala les calories, el braç de dejuni rarament guanya. Això es reporta de manera consistent i es comunica de manera consistent, perquè "funciona tant com menjar menys" és un mal titular.
Encara és un resultat útil. Per a algunes persones, una regla sobre quan menjar és molt més fàcil de seguir que una regla sobre quant, i l'adherència és el que realment determina els resultats al llarg d'un any.

- Menjar restringit per temps 16:8 — menjar en 8 hores, dejuni 16

- Un àpat al dia (OMAD) — una única ocasió d'alimentació diària
